For years, Hamza Kooheji has carried the weight of a nation on his shoulders.
Now, as he prepares to step inside the cage at BRAVE 100, the proud son of Bahrain stands on the cusp of history — determined to transform years of quiet perseverance into the roar of a World Champion.
On Friday, November 7, at the iconic Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town, the 32-year-old will challenge Serbia’s Borislav Nikolic for the BRAVE CF Bantamweight World Championship, headlining the organization’s centennial event — a night that symbolizes not only BRAVE Combat Federation’s global success but also Kooheji’s unyielding journey toward greatness.
For the man hailed as “The Face of Bahraini MMA,” this isn’t just another fight. It’s the culmination of a story that began when the sport was still finding its place in the region — a tale of a quiet inidvidual who built himself from nothing and helped build a county’s fighting spirit in the process.
“He is the most underrated fighter that I’ve ever dealt with,” said BRAVE CF President Mohammed Shahid in a recent podcast.
“My knowledge, as much as I know, I have not seen a fighter more underrated than Hamza Kooheji. Hamza had to learn, no background of amateur fights. He’s not coming from a jiu-jitsu background, not from the kickboxing background, Muay Thai background. Nothing.”
Kooheji has been with BRAVE CF since its inception in 2016, embodying the heart and evolution of the promotion.
With 11 appearances on the BRAVE CF stage and nine victories, the No. 2-ranked bantamweight contender has become a beacon of Bahraini resilience and an inspiration to countless aspiring fighters across the Arab world.
He came close to achieving his dream in 2022 when he first contended for the world title, falling just short of glory.
But in true warrior fashion, Kooheji never wavered. Every setback only sharpened his resolve.
“I’m going to keep fighting. I dream about it every night,” Kooheji stated. “I’m named after one of the greatest warriors in history, and Hamza means lions. I’m the best 61-kilogram fighter. Anywhere I can go and fight with any fighter at 61 kilograms.”
Now, standing before his hometown crowd once again, he knows the moment is bigger than himself.
His victory would be a defining triumph — not only for his career but for Bahraini MMA as a whole.
“Nobody knows the part he played and how important part that is,” Shahid added. “This has to be the time everybody needs to know who Hamza Kooheji is, as the fighter that had the biggest impact on the region.”
At BRAVE 100, history and destiny converge. The lights, the cheers, the years of sacrifice — all of it leads to this moment.
For the “most underrated” mixed martial artist in BRAVE CF history, the stage is set to silence doubt, fulfill his dream, and bring home the gold that has long awaited him.
When the cage door closes in Isa Town, Kooheji won’t just be fighting for an intricately crafted belt. He’ll be fighting for legacy.
