Every fighter remembers where the dream began.
For Luthando "Shorty" Biko, it started in KwaZakhele, a township in Gqeberha where ambition outweighed circumstance, and every training session was another step toward something greater.
Years later, that same journey has carried one of Africa's most decorated flyweights to the doorstep of the biggest opportunity of his career.
On Saturday, August 1, Biko returns to the BRAVE Combat Federation cage for the third time when he meets Georgia's Bidzina Gavashelishvili in the co-main event of BRAVE CF 107 at Burgas Arena in Bulgaria.
The reward could be life-changing. A victory would firmly establish the South African veteran as one of the leading contenders for the BRAVE CF Flyweight World Championship.
"It has never been just about getting here," Biko said. "It has always been about proving that I belong among the best in the world. This is the opportunity I have been working toward for years."
Long before he set his sights on international success, Biko had already built an extraordinary résumé across Africa.
A two-time continental champion, he established himself as one of the region's defining mixed martial artists before seeking a platform that could test him against the world's elite.
That search led him to BRAVE CF, the world’s fastest-growing and most global MMA organization.
Under the guidance of Chris Bright at the Port Elizabeth Submission Fighting Academy (PESFA), Biko transformed himself into one of the Eastern Cape's greatest MMA exports.
His rise has made him a symbol of excellence for Gqeberha, a city that has long produced resilient athletes eager to compete on the global stage.
"I carry my city with me every time I compete," Biko stated. "I want people back home to know that dreams from Gqeberha can reach the biggest stages in the sport."
His clash with Gavashelishvili also revives a matchup that was years in the making.
The two were originally booked to face each other at BRAVE CF 82 in May 2024 before the bout was cancelled, delaying what many believed would be a fascinating stylistic battle.
Biko eventually made his promotional debut at BRAVE CF 93 in April 2025, while both athletes continued climbing the flyweight ladder.

Now, their paths finally intersect with far more than pride on the line.
The division entered a new era when Muhammad “The Punisher” Mokaev captured the inaugural BRAVE CF Flyweight World Championship at the historic BRAVE 100 in November 2025.
As the champion awaits his first challenger, the outcome of the BRAVE CF 107 co-main event could determine who earns that coveted opportunity.
"Sometimes the timing makes a fight even bigger," Biko expressed. "We were supposed to meet before, but now everything means more. This is the kind of challenge every competitor wants."
For Biko, success extends well beyond personal achievement. Every appearance under the BRAVE CF banner is an opportunity to showcase the strength of African MMA and inspire the next generation of athletes chasing the same dream.
A victory in Bulgaria would represent another milestone in a remarkable career that began in Gqeberha and flourished across the African continent.
More importantly, it could bring "Shorty" within touching distance of BRAVE CF gold.
